Bulldogs Get Balanced Scoring In Win

— Springdale High boys basketball coach Brad Stamps hasn’t been feeling well lately, and he didn’t want to get anyone else sick Friday night.

He perhaps found a good remedy to get over several days of battling an illness and some internal turmoil with his team.

Chasen Williamson and Jordan Dennis attacked the basket, made acrobatic shots look easy and gave the shorthanded Bulldogs a boost in a 55-42 win over Rogers Heritage in War Eagles Arena.

Afterward, Stamps, who coached from the sidelines, let assistant coach Greg White do the talking.

“I thought Chasen did a great job of attacking the basket. He’s so explosive, and Jordan, he’s just a big-time playmaker,” White said. “He attacked the rim and did some good things, and we shared the basketball well tonight.”

Williamson, Jordan Dennis and point guard Tony Dennis each scored 12 points to help the Bulldogs (16-8, 7-4 7A-West Conference) jump out to an early lead and counter every time the War Eagles (8-17, 1-10) attempted a late comeback.

The balanced scoring also allowed Springdale to make up for not having two of its role players, sophomore guard D.J. Evans and senior forward Kempys Robinson. Both players missed the game because of an internal issue.

“They were better defensively than we were, and they were able to get by us on the way to the basket and really make things happen going to the rim,” Heritage coach Tom Olsen said.

Springdale held Heritage to only six points in the first quarter, and the War Eagles fell behind 42-28 after Williamson scored five consecutive points toward the end of the third quarter. One of his baskets was an off-balance shot in the lane that resulted in a three-point play.

Luke Fryauf led Heritage with 12 points, and Garrett Macy and Wyatt Kinnamon added eight each.

“I think we played with a lot of confidence on the defensive end,” White said. “I thought we shared the ball on the offensive end and that always feeds our defense, where we want to help each other.”
