House Damaged By Fire

— Firefighters battled a blaze at 502 S.E. D St. early Friday that destroyed 50 to 75 percent of the home, according to the fire marshal. No one was home at the time of the fire, a neighbor said.

The Bentonville Fire Department was called for a fire at the same address Thursday. Neighbor Erich Tews said the family stayed elsewhere Thursday night.

James Birchfield, division chief and fire marshal, said a police officer called in the fire at 7:17 a.m. Crews were on the scene within three minutes, records show. The attic was engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived, he said.

The electricity wasn’t on at the home at the time of the fire, Birchfield said.

The fire was under control within 20 minutes, though crews stayed longer to ensure it didn’t start again. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
