Christmas Tree Disposals Planned

Saturday, December 29, 2012

— Benton County residents have multiple options for disposing Christmas trees this year.

The Benton County Waste District, 5702 Brookside Road in Bentonville, is one drop off area. Trees will be used to make fish habitats in Swepco Lake in Gentry, said Wendy Cravens, district director.

Trees can be dropped at the waste district from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Saturday, excluding Jan. 1, through Jan. 12. For more information, call 479-795-0751.

In Bentonville, Boy Scout Troop 525 will pick up trees for a $10 to $15 donation. The trees also will be used as fish habitats or turned into mulch. Trees will be picked up curbside Jan. 5. Trees must be on the curb by 8 a.m., and all pickups must by scheduled by Jan. 4. Money can be put in an envelope or plastic bag and then tied to the trunk of the tree.

To schedule a pickup, call 479-273-0592 or visit www.123contactform.com/form-414582/Troop-525-Christmas-Tree-Pickup.

Trees also can be dropped off in Bella Vista at London Landing or the grassy area to the left of the boat ramp at Lake Windsor dam, said Christy Attlesey, communications manager for the Property Owners Association.

Anyone can drop their trees off at that location. People don’t need to be Bella Vista property owners. Trees shouldn’t be dropped in the lake, Attlesey said. Association members will decide where the trees will be dropped in the lake for fish habitats. Trees will be collected through Jan. 30.
