PUBLIC VIEWPOINT Train Ex-Military For School Security

Everyone is talking about how we as a nation can keep our children safe at school. Well, I’ve been hearing there aren’t any jobs for our veterans of the military. What if our government were to develop a system or program to create security jobs for our veterans of the military in our nation’s schools?

Correct me if I’m wrong, but are they not trained to patrol, guard and secure situations? Aren’t they taught to mentally control how to take charge of a situation?

Appoint them a security job at our schools, not just for employment but also for their own peace of mind and self-worth, to know for themselves this nation still wants and needs their help.

If we as a nation and a government are willing to send our military womenand men to other countries to fight for our freedom and help other citizens of foreign countries feel and know they are safe, then why in God’s name can’t we do the same here in the United States of America?

In my opinion, putting guns in the hands of teachers and principals in our schools is just asking for trouble.

They are educators and, yes, they do try to keep our children safe, but their jobs are to educate our children, not to worry about “what if a child finds the guns on campus and starts shooting.”

This solution would also help with allowing the police off cers to do their jobs on the streets and in communities. To protect and serve is what they are to do.

Why not let our veterans of the military help with securing our children and our schools, from Pre-K to college campuses?

United we stand, divided we fall! Let us help our children to grow up and to believe in themselves and each other as a nation under God, so help us all. Veterans securing our schools. “Vets S.O.S.”

TIME TO GET RID OF EYESORE

So I’m driving up

(Fayetteville’s) Archibald Yell Drive on a beautiful December day and, boom, there it is: our version of “Downtown Detroit City.”

I’m talking about the ugly, eyesore, gray, bleak, backside buildings that top the hill where the old Mountain Inn used to be.

Folks, I have an idea.

No. 1, let’s have a citywide suggestion e-box on what to do with improving thevisuals of those buildings and “how to fi x said problem.” I personally have two suggestions on the building facades themselves. No. 2, get the city administration, our art community, the University of Arkansas’ Art Department, property owners and whoever to come up with art, something visually spectacular, as in a humongous painted mural format. No. 3, there are hydroponic vine/vegetablegrowing companies that could cover the brickwork from the ground up to the building tops and disguise the ugliness of it all, plus we could get some gardenfresh whatever to eat and distribute.

Somebody form a committee and let’s get cracking on this.
