Project Planned In Fayetteville To Break Down, Recycle As Many Wreaths As Possible

— Bo’s Project will be held Jan. 15 in conjunction with the removal of the wreaths from the Fayetteville National Cemetery.

The project is an effort to break down as many wreaths as possible and send them to Fayetteville’s recycling center, according to a news release. The greenery will go to compost, the wiring and red ribbon into the recycling.

Multiple trucks and volunteers of all ages, sizes and strength, will be needed for the removal of the wreaths and the breakdown. Pliers, gloves and many hands will also be required.

The city will provide containers for hauling to the recycling center free of charge. Restoration Church has offered offsite parking for the container as well as the use of their parking lot for processing.

The Washington County Sheriff ’s Office will provide a work detail to assist.

The event starts at 8 a.m. Jan. 15 at the Fayetteville National Cemetery.

The project is being led by Jannie Bibb, the motherof SFC James “Bo” (Bibb) Swearingen, who was killed in an April 3, 2010, accident near Winslow. The project is in his honor.
