Har-Ber Splits Two Games In Texas

Springdale Har-Ber’s girls basketball team won one game and lost another Thursday during the first round of the Mansfield Invitational at Mansfield, Texas.

Har-Ber opened play early Thursday with a 61-55 victory over Wagner, Texas, before losing 67-21 to Cedar Hill, Texas, late Thursday afternoon. Cedar Hill is led by 6-foot-3 center Jada Terry, who signed with Texas A&M.

“We finished our first game real well, but we were outmanned against Cedar Hill,” Har-Ber coach Sandy Wright said. “That’s going to happen against the quality of teams you play down here in this tournament. We have to have some short-term memory after this.”

Har-Ber will play two more games today beginning at 9:45 a.m. against Crowley, Texas. The Lady Wildcats finished seventh in the 32-team field last season.

Caylee Wright scored 16 points to lead Har-Ber to its comeback victory over Wagner, Texas, which led 24-16 at halftime. Wright scored 11 points in the fourth quarter when the Lady Wildcats outscored Wagner 24-14.

Tayleah Neal finished with 14 points, and Samantha Weber added 13.

“We played a solid second half,” Wright said. “Caylee and Weber both hit 3-pointers in the fourth quarter, and Caylee made four free throws to help seal it for us.”

Wright led Har-Ber with seven points in the loss to Cedar Hill.

The Har-Ber boys basketball team will play host Hot Springs at 2:30 p.m. today in the Spa City Shootout, which was postponed a day because of poor weather conditions.
