Worthen named foundation officer

The Winthrop Rockefeller Foundation in Little Rock has announced its 2013 board officers and directors. Diana Gonzales Worthen of Fayetteville, director of Project Teach Them All at the University of Arkansas, has been named chairman-elect of the foundation.

Worthen joins chairman Toyce Newton of Crossett, the president and chief executive of Phoenix Youth and Family Services Inc., and secretary Regan Gruber Moffitt of Little Rock, the foundation’s senior associate for public policy, as the group’s 2013 officers.

The group’s board also includes Yvette Murphy-Erby of Fayetteville, who serves as director of the of University of Arkansas School of Social Work.

Kincaid gets SURF grant

John Kincaid, a North Arkansas College student from Alpena, has been awarded the Student Undergraduate Research Fellowship from the Arkansas Department of Higher Education.

Kincaid is the son of Donna Kincaid. He is majoring in environmental science.

Kincaid will receive a $4,000 award as part of the prize. As part of the award, he must conduct in-depth research in his chosen field and present the results to the Arkansas Academy of Sciences in 2014.

The research project is set to begin in April, with Kincaid graduating next December. After he graduates, Kincaid plans to continue his education at a four-year university.

Remer takes home agri scholarship

Millie Remer of Bergman received the Community FirstBank Agriculture Scholarship to attend North Arkansas College in Harrison in the spring.

Remer is president of the college’s Student Government, program coordinator for the Future Farmers of America and a cheerleader. She plans to complete her general education requirements at North Arkansas College before transferring to a university to study engineering.

Remer is the daughter of Linda Remer. She is a graduate of Bergman High School.

Nichols receives PTA scholarship

Chris Nichols of Springdale recently received the Rob Jordan PTA Scholarship at NorthWest Arkansas Community College in Bentonville.

The scholarship was named for a physical therapist who helped NWACC academic adviser Sarah Beth Phillips during her childhood and teen years. Phillips was diagnosed with cerebral palsy at age 18 months.

The $1,500 scholarship is given yearly to a student in the physical therapist assistant program at NWACC. Nichols is the third recipient of the scholarship.
