Military park hosts vegetation study
Pea Ridge National Military Park is in the process of developing a vegetation management plan environmental assessment, the park has announced. The plan would modify or establish vegetation patterns to match the look and feel of an 1862 battlefield landscape.
The assessment is part of the park’s 2006 general management plan, which established goals for landscape management. Residents are invited to comment on the plan through Jan. 14 by using the park’s planning, environment and public comment website, parkplanning.nps.gov/projectHome.cfm?projectID=42064.
The park was established in 1956 to commemorate and preserve the site of the Civil War battle that took place in Pea Ridge in March 1862. The battle helped U.S. forces gain control of Missouri.
