PUBLIC VIEW POINT: Where Are The Christmas Lights?

On a recent Saturday night, we drove over to Fayetteville to see the beautiful lights of the square and then headed to Springdale to see the lights of Murphy Park, but much to our surprise and disappointment the park was dark, except for two small light displays.

I cannot understand what the reason could be for not having the lights this year. Our kids and grandkids have always looked forward to seeing them. Surely the city could afford this holiday display. There was enough darkness in the world that night without having the Christmas lights darkened, too.

Come on, Springdale, let’s get the lights back in Murphy Park!

SAME SONG, SECOND VERSE

Another Saturday, another formulaic letter, this time from Barbara Foreman of Siloam Springs (Public Viewpoint, Dec. 8). The usual themes: The country is being taken over by those wanting a handout.

Obama is a Communist.

He wants to take from the rich “whose own hard work and ingenuity made them successful.”

One begins to wonder if the Republicans have a computer program that churns out these letters, with variations to make them look individual while including all the standard themes, aft xes a signature of the party faithful and sends them to papers known to be sympathetic to the message.

FRIENDS FOUND AT ATTIC

Good Morning has been my greeting to my customers at The Attic (in Fayetteville) for more than 18 years.

As the years went by, the customers became friends and friendships developed. I shall remember the times we shared filled with fun, happiness and even tears on occasion.

On Friday, I resigned from The Attic, but my memories and friendships will never be forgotten.

I wish all my customers a very Merry Christmas from a friend who remembers and loves each of you.
