— Perhaps the world won’t end today, even with ancient Mayan predictions to the contrary. (And what time is that supposed to happen, anyway?)

But according to a Reuters news service survey, about 10 percent of respondents expect the end times today. Even some national governments are taking the threat (or threat of a threat) seriously. According to The Associated Press, Chinese officials have detained more than 500 people for declaring the world will end soon.

Even as NASA works to debunk myths on its website, many are pondering the end times. Or at least they plan to party like the world is ending.
