Scattered Power Outages Reported

— Staff Report

Overnight storms and strong wind caused power outages throughout Washington County on Thursday.

About 1,300 Southwestern Electric Power Company customers were without electricity at 10:30 a.m., according to Swepco’s website.

Kacee Kirschvink, company spokeswoman, estimated as many as 500 of those customers lived in Fayetteville. The company serves more than 48,000 customers in Washington County and roughly 527,000 customers throughout western Arkansas, Texas and Louisiana.

Fewer than 200 Ozarks Electric Cooperative customers were still without power in the county at 10:30 a.m. Penny Storms, communications manager for the cooperative, said tree limbs had fallen on power lines serving the Candlewood and Paradise Valley subdivisions in northeast Fayetteville.

She reported at least one home without power in Greenland because of a broken utility pole. Workers were repairing lines Thursday morning. Storms warned of possible periodic outages throughout the day Thursday as high wind was expected to continue.
