Power outages reported in NWA

Overnight storms and strong winds Thursday caused power outages throughout Washington County.

About 1,300 Southwestern Electric Power Co. customers were without electricity at 10:30 a.m., according to the company's website. Kacee Kirschvink, a spokeswoman for the company, estimated that as many as 500 of those customers lived in Fayetteville. The company serves more than 48,000 customers in Washington County and roughly 527,000 customers throughout western Arkansas, Texas and Louisiana.

Fewer than 200 Ozarks Electric Cooperative customers in the county were powerless at 10:30 a.m. Penny Storms, communications manager for the cooperative, said tree limbs had fallen on power lines serving the Candlewood and Paradise Valley subdivisions in northeast Fayetteville. She reported at least one home without power in Greenland because of a broken utility pole. Workers were making repairs to lines Thursday morning. Storms warned of periodic outages throughout the day as high winds continue.
