Man on Trial Accused of Raping 9-Year-Old

— A Prairie Grove man kidnapped, raped and sexually assaulted a 9-year-old Oklahoma girl over two days in July, prosecutors told a Washington County jury Wednesday.

Eugene McCarty, 72, denies the allegations and contends his accusers are a methamphetamine-crazed group of people who routinely stole money and medication from his home.

Prosecutors contend McCarty took the girl to his home July 3 and wouldn’t return her to the mother’s home in Westville, Okla.

The girl testified Wednesday that McCarty sexually abused her repeatedly while she was at his house.

A person came to McCarty’s house, claims to have seen McCarty and the girl naked and contacted her mother.

The mother had no car but was able to get a ride to McCarty’s home July 4, she said Wednesday. The mother told jurors she found McCarty forcing her daughter to perform sex acts in a bedroom.

The mother said she didn’t call authorities at the time but later called police in Oklahoma.

McCarty’s attorney, Erwin Davis, told jurors the group of “tweekers” stole money every month that McCarty received for disability. Davis also told jurors the mother and others made up the allegations and coached the girl about what to say.

The mother pleaded guilty in November to permitting the abuse of a minor. She was sentenced to prison and ordered to have no contact with her daughter.

Steve Hulsey, a Washington County Sheriff’s Office detective, told jurors the girl told investigators she had been sexually assaulted by McCarty. Hulsey also found items the girl described were used to assault her in the places she said they would be in McCarty’s house during a search.

The trial in Washington County Circuit Court is expected to finish today.
