High School Groups Collect Food, Clothes

— Bentonville High School students will bring awareness to homelessness during a 24-hour campout that starts today.

The school’s Amnesty International chapter asks the public to drop off food, clothing and blankets during the event. Donations will be given to Northwest Arkansas Food Bank and area community shelters, according to a news release from the organization.

The event will be held from 11 a.m. today to 11 a.m. Friday in front of Bentonville High School on J Street.

Emma Hackett, chapter secretary, said the organization started this year.

“Amnesty takes the time to stand up for people who may not be able to,” Hackett said. “Everyone has rights no matter who they are, no matter what they look like or where they come from.”
