Walmart Building New Springdale Supercenter

Wednesday, December 19, 2012

— Walmart announced Tuesday plans to build a second Supercenter in Springdale.

The new 180,000-square-foot store will be just off the Interstate 540 and Elm Springs Road intersection, across Elm Springs from Macadoodles, according to a news release.

The new store will employ 300 workers. Construction will begin in 2013, with the new store expected to open in the fall of 2014.

Walmart and Springdale city officials scheduled a news conference on site Thursday where they will share details on road and infrastructure improvements, and the energy-efficient technology and environmentally friendly features planned to reduce energy and water consumption at the store.

The new store will be the eighth Supercenter in Benton and Washington counties. The Springdale Supercenter at 2004 S. Pleasant St. opened in 1972.
