Bentonville Takes Fourth in Miami, Okla.

The Bentonville wrestling team took fourth in a tough 17-team field at the Miami (Okla.) Wardog Invitational Saturday.

The Tigers were led by third-place finishes from Aaron Grigsby (120), Jeff Bizzle (138) and Jared Conover (285). All three lost in the semifinals to eventual champions.

Bentonville finished just ahead of Jay, Okla., which defeated them in the finals of a dual tournament in Jay a couple of weeks ago. The tournament included teams from four different states.

Chuck Price (145), Kyson Larsen (182) and Austin Tull Cochran (138) each finished fifth. Tull Cochran picked up a win over defending Arkansas state champion Logan Evans of Rogers Heritage in the fifth-place match.

Heritage finished 14th led by sixth-place finishes from Evans (138) and Jeremy Hill (145).

Har-Ber Wrestlers Place 3rd In Okla.

Springdale Har-Ber finished third out of 16 teams during a wrestling tournament at Bixby, Okla., over the weekend.

Five Har-Ber wrestlers reached the finals and three won championships, including freshman Kimble Jennings (106 pounds), who improved to 16-1 on the season. Nick Smith (195) and Ty Harrison (heavyweight) also won championships while Cristan Arredondo (120) and Douglas Matthews each placed second in their weight division.

Host Bixby won the tournament while Norman (Okla.) North finished as the runner-up.

“The key for us was getting five wrestlers into the finals and three of them won their matches,” Har-Ber coach Nika West said. “There was some good competition and some of the Oklahoma wrestlers were a little upset that guys from Arkansas were winning. You could see it in their faces.”

Har-Ber will return to action Saturday in the Fayetteville Invitational.
