Man Accused Of Lottery Fraud

An Elkins man faces felony charges after police said he stole lottery tickets from a liquor store and tried to redeem them for cash.

Damion Michael Savage, 18, of 1389 Aspen Circle was arrested Friday in connection with felony breaking or entering, commercial burglary and lottery fraud.

Elkins police were called to Casey’s General Store, 2031 Stokenbury Road, about 5 p.m. Friday for a lottery fraud report.

According to a preliminary arrest report, an employee of the store said Savage had tried to redeem stolen lottery tickets for cash.

Savage reportedly told police he bought the tickets from a gasoline station in Fayetteville.

A representative with the Arkansas Lottery told investigators the ticket numbers matched some of the lottery tickets stolen from Eastside Liquor in Elkins, according to the report. Police said Savage admitted to stealing the tickets.

He was arrested and taken to the Washington County Detention Center, where he was being held Saturday without bond.
