— Junior guard Jace Richardson scored 20 points and came up with six steals as Fort Smith Northside outlasted Forrest City 68-63 in overtime Saturday at the Arkansas Hoops Challenge at Maumelle High School.

Richardson scored four points in the overtime.

“Jace did a good job,” Fort Smith Northside Coach Eric Burnett said. “I thought he did an especially good job defensively putting pressure on their guards. He also did a good job of attacking the bucket, and I thought he did a good job of hitting his free throws, with the exception of the two at the end.”

Two missed free throws with 7.5 seconds left in regulation opened the door for the Mustangs (5-4). Senior guard Trey Hutheison hit a 21-footer as time expired to send the game into the extra period.

Forrest City, however, did not have its top player for the final four minutes. Trey Thompson, a 6-8 junior, had collected his fifth foul with 59 seconds left in regulation. Thompson finished with 17 points and 15 rebounds, but he was held to one field goal and six points in the second half.

“I thought he was a little tired ... that’s what we wanted to do, try to make him tired by going up and down the court,” Burnett said.

Hutheison finished with 16 points while Dwain Whitfield and Joe Tripp added nine each. James Silours grabbed nine rebounds for Forrest City.

Junior guard Chris Eckes finished with 3 three-pointers and 13 points for the Grizzlies (7-4). Stephon Brown added nine for Northside.

The Grizzlies out shot the Mustangs 67-41 and held a 15-9 advantage in steals.

The teams made a combined 21 three pointers, with Pulaski Academy hitting 11. Brady and Shiloh Christian’s Daniel Matthews made six three-pointers each.

“We feel good about Brandon and his shot selection, off the dribble and pulling up,” Bruins Coach Roger Franks said. “Those are shots we want to take and need to take.”

Shiloh Christian held an early 17-11 lead, but Pulaski Academy finished the first half by outscoring the Saints 25-11. Shiloh Christian got only as close as four in the second half.

Freshman Lawson Korita added 12 points and junior Chase Snider added 11 for Pulaski Academy.

Matthews, senior Ryder Anderson and senior Darrian Harris scored 18 points each for Shiloh Christian. Harris grabbed a team-high eight rebounds.
