Deputies: Man Intentionally Crashed Car

— A Springdale man faces felony charges after deputies said he restrained his girlfriend in his car and intentionally crashed the vehicle.

Odilon Carranza-Acevedo, 34, of 354 Erwin Place in Springdale was arrested Friday in connection with felony first-degree battery, terroristic threatening and first-degree false imprisonment.

Washington County deputies responded to the area of Black Oak Road on Nov. 16 for a report of a car crash.

Officers reportedly identified Carranza-Acevedo as the driver of the vehicle and his passenger was identified as Marta Cabrera, 37.

The two suffered serious injuries and were taken to Washington Regional Medical Center, according to the report.

Deputies said Carranza-Acevedo was driving Cabrera to work when she received a text message from another man.

Carranza-Acevedo reportedly restrained Cabrera and threw her phone out of the car window. He then stated, “We are going to die today,” according to the report, and threatened to crash the car.

Deputies said Cabrera pleaded with Carranza-Acevedo to take her to work, but Carranza-Acevedo drove past her place of employment and left the Fayetteville city limits.

According to the report, Carranza-Acevedo removed Cabrera’s seat belt and wrapped it around his wrist to restrain her. He then accelerated to about 70 mph and drove off a 90-degree curve, wrecking the vehicle, according to the report.

Cabrera suffered serious back, knee and leg injuries, according to the report. She was hospitalized for several days and will reportedly need extensive surgery.

Carranza-Acevedo was released from the hospital Friday. He was in the Washington County Detention Center without bond Saturday.
