ARK. HOOPS CHALLENGE

Charging Wildcats prevail

— Every time the Clarksville Panthers would make a run at North Little Rock, the Charging Wildcats had an answer in a 68-60 victory in the nightcap of the Arkansas Hoops Challenge at Maumelle High School on Saturday night.

North Little Rock (8-1) never trailed in the second half, and led by as many as 10 points on three occasions, but could never shake the Class 4A Panthers (6-3). In fact, they closed within two points four times in the final 4:38. They only had one opportunity to tie the game or take the lead, but Dederick Lee’s three pointer went in and out.

“I am glad with the win, but we did not play well at all,” North Little Rock Coach Johnny Rice said. “We had no energy. We did not play together. I don’t know the reason. It was by far the worst game we have played all year.”

Dayshawn Watkins and Thomas Alexander led the Charging Wildcats with 20 points each.

After Deven Sims cut the Charging Wildcats’ lead to62-60 with a three-point play with 39 seconds left, an intentional foul was called and North Little Rock made 6 of 8 free throws from there,

Dims led Clarksville with 22. Lee had 15 points and Jerren Thompson added 10.
