POA Report Returns Online

— Members should have easy access to financial information that was recently presented to the board it was decided at Thursday’s meeting of the Bella Vista Property Owners Association Board of Directors. Board member Randall Gnant, who compiled a report predicting the association will soon be out of money, said he heard from a member his presentation was not available on the association’s website.

Gnant presented his 10-year baseline projection as a PowerPoint at a meeting in November. It predicted with spending to keep amenities at the current levels, the association would be out of money by 2014.

The PowerPoint was posted on the website, said Tommy Bailey, general manager, but it was removed after a discussion during a recent Golf Committee meeting.

Board member Kelli Russell said the Golf Committee is very involved in marketing Bella Vista Village and some members felt Gnant’s PowerPoint would hurt the marketing effort.

“How do you want the truth altered?” Gnant asked.

Bailey said posting the slides without the verbal explanation is confusing to members and Gnant agreed to edit the slides for clarity. The board agreed the information should be posted.

But Gnant said he doesn’t think the marketing effort should continue until the financial issues are cleared up.

“Marketing before getting out of our current situation is a pipe dream,” he said.

After the meeting Gnant said the Ad Hoc Solutions Committee for which he is chairman is considering the best way to “give members the opportunity to increase their assessment.” He explained the committee would like to be able to put the assessment increase on the ballot in May when three board seats will be filled. That means the full board will have to consider the plan in January.

The 10-year projection will be the topic of the next “Talk to the Board” forum scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Jan. 22 at Riordan Hall. The first forum in November drew about 30 members to hear about restaurants and communications.
