Rheem Manufacturing Co. announced Thursday that it would lay off 75 to 100 hourly employees at the Fort Smith plant effective Jan. 11 as part of normal seasonal staffing adjustments.
"Today's adjustment is consistent with annual staffing changes at this time of year," said Lindsey Ford, a spokesman at Rheem's headquarters in Atlanta.
The plant employs more than 1,000 workers in Fort Smith and makes gas furnaces and air conditioning products.
Hourly workers are represented by United Steel Workers of America Local 7893. Union representatives could not immediately be reached for comment.
