Fayetteville’s Edie Earns Gatorade Player Of Year

— Aubrey Edie played volleyball at Fayetteville with a contagious passion and love for the game. Her abilities on the court weren’t all that bad, either.

Edie, a 6-foot-1 senior setter, wrapped up her high school career as Fayetteville’s record-holder in assists and helped the Lady Bulldogs to their first Class 7A state volleyball championship this season with a straight sets win against Fort Smith Southside in the 7A finals.

A three-time All-State selection and Second-Team Under Armour All-American, Edie added another honor Wednesday when she was chosen as the Gatorade Arkansas Volleyball Player of the Year.

“It’s such an honor and I couldn’t have done it without the support of my team,” Edie said. “To be put with Hannah Allison and Lizzy Briones and other great players who won this award is great.

“I really look up to Hannah because she plays my position and she plays at Texas, and they’re in the Final Four right now.”

Edie finished the season with 1,102 assists, 233 digs, 176 kills, 90 blocks and 54 service aces while posting a kill percentage of .431. She also was named Most Valuable Player of the 7A State Tournament while maintaining a 3.97 grade point average

“Aubrey Edie is by far the best player I have seen in Arkansas this year,” Siloam Springs coach Rose Cheek said in a Gatorade Player of the Year release. “We played in three tournaments against her, and I did not see anyone that possessed her skill level, court awareness or team attitude. She is passionate about the game and is a total team player.”

Edie signed to play volleyball at Ole Miss next fall.
