Springdale Suffers Losses At Northside

Wednesday, December 12, 2012

Springdale High forward Alex Scharlau scored 20 points Tuesday, including a tip-in with 12 seconds remaining in regulation to force overtime at Fort Smith Northside.

It wasn’t enough, though.

Northside rallied to pull out a 70-68 win over Springdale despite Scharlau’s big night and 17 points from DaShaun Stark. The Bulldogs (4-4) overcame a 23-14 deficit and used a defensive stop in the final seconds to force overtime.

“One thing about this basketball team is we will never ever question that they will play hard,” Springdale boys basketball coach Brad Stamps said. “We played hard tonight. I was pleased with our effort in a tough game on the road.”

Tyler Tutt scored 13 and Tereke Eckwood added 10 points for Springdale.

Springdale fell behind by 11 points in the first quarter and 22 at halftime, and the Lady Bulldogs couldn’t overcome the slow start in a 61-28 loss to Northside.

Baiyinnah Taylor led Springdale (2-6) with nine points, and fellow guard Brittany Jurgens added five.
