— Greenwood didn’t have its best night shooting the basketball, but the Lady Bulldogs turned up the defensive pressure to make sure it didn’t matter Tuesday night.

Greenwood forced 18 Springdale Har-Ber turnovers and limited the Lady Wildcats to just three field goals in the first two quarters to roll to a 68-41 victory in nonconference girls basketball at Wildcat Arena.

Har-Ber coach Sandy Wright said her team struggled to get into an offense much of the night and Greenwood’s pressure was the reason.

“It felt like a trout swimming upstream,” Wright said. “They have more depth than we do and can play more aggressive and all that takes you out of things. They took us out of about anything we wanted to do.”

The Lady Bulldogs (9-0) led 33-13 at halftime and never led by less than 13 in the second half. Har-Ber (6-3) didn’t reach double digits until Samantha Weber’s 3-pointer with 3 minutes, 53 seconds left in the second quarter pulled the Lady Wildcats within 26-10.

Har-Ber opened the second half with seven straight points, but Greenwood responded with a 15-5 spurt to regain command.

Junior guard Lundon Williams led four Greenwood players in double figures with a game-high 18 points. Sammy Richards added 13, Haleigh Henson 12 and Megan Hartness 10.

Greenwood coach Clay Reeves said the game wasn’t played at the faster pace his team would like, but it wasn’t from a lack of effort.

“I thought our kids were giving good effort, there just wasn’t a very good rhythm,” Reeves said. “A couple times we were able to go on runs and take advantage of some things. It didn’t feel like it from watching the game, though.”

Caylee Wright was the only Har-Ber player in double figures with 14 points, while Bailey Schalk added nine.

The Lady Wildcats were missing senior guard Ashley Gray because of an Achilles injury. Wright said she was unsure when Gray would return.
