Springdale High Cruises To Win In Consolation Final

Alex Scharlau scored 17 points and DaShaun Stark added 16 points Saturday, helping Springdale High cruise to a 66-50 win over Stillwater, Okla., in the consolation final of the Bixby Tournament.

Chris Owens scored 10 points as the Bulldogs (4-3) jumped out to a 12-point halftime lead and used an 8-0 run in the fourth quarter to seal the win.

“We came back and took the lead in the second quarter and just stretched it to double digits at halftime,” Springdale boys basketball coach Brad Stamps said. “We had a really good third quarter, a lot of transition stuft , and I was really proud of our bench.”

Springdale returns to action Tuesday when it travels to Fort Smith Northside.

Brittany Jurgens scored 12 points, but the Springdale Lady Bulldogs’ oft ense stalled down the stretch as Norman (Okla.) North earned a 48-36 win on the final day of the Durant Lion Classic.

Taylor McPherson and Karen Perez finished with seven points each, helping the Lady Bulldogs (2-5) take a 12-2 lead in the fi rst quarter. But Norman North rallied to take a 25-23 halftime lead and held Springdale to only eight points in the fourth quarter.

“That’s where the game was really decided,” Springdale girls basketball coach Heather Hunsucker said. “It was back and forth. That was the best time we played.”

BENTONVILLE 54, TULSA (OKLA.) CASCIA HALL 39

Taylor Lee and Kindal Coleman combined for 34 points Saturday night and helped Bentonville win the Vinita (Okla.) Invitational Big Dawg Shootout for the second straight year.

The Lady Tigers (6-0) put the game out of reach in the third quarter when they outscored Cascia Hall 15-3 and turned a fi ve-point halftime lead into a comfortable 42-25 margin.

Lee finished the game with 18 points, which included a trio of 3-pointers and a 7-of-8 performance from the free-throw line. Coleman also hit a trio of 3-pointers and finished with 16 points, while Julia Garrard also had nine rebounds.

Bentonville hit 17 of 43 from the floor, including 9 of 22 from 3-point range, and 11 of 14 free throws. Cascia Hall was held to 12 of 43 shooting, including 3 of 17 of its 3-pointers, and 12 of 22 free throws.

The Lady Tigers continue their road swing Thursday with nonconference action against Greenwood, then travel to Clarksville for another game the following day.

ROGERS GIRLS WIN MISSOURI TOURNAMENT

Taylor Strickland scored 23 points and Hannah Hawley added 11 as Rogers High won the Stephanie Phillips Classic at Springfi eld Kickapoo High with a 52-43 win against Springfi eld Parkview Saturday.

The Lady Mounties (6-2) led 20-19 at halftime and pulled away in the fourth period. Libby Ganoung added nine points for the Lady Mounties while Cassandra Trexler finished with 8.

“Cassandra played her most complete game at the point guard position,” Rogers coach Preston Early said. “Libby had to step up for us, and she did. Hawley also did it for us on both ends of the court. Hannah took three charges for us. It was just a total team win.”

Rogers returns to action Friday when it plays at Shiloh Christian.

HAR-BER GIRLS WIN TOURNAMENT TITLE

Springdale Har-Ber won three consecutive games to capture the championship in the Joplin (Mo.) Invitational at Missouri Southern State University.

Har-Ber defeated Harrison 48-39 in an All-Arkansas final Saturday night. Senior Caylee Wright and sophomore Bailey Schalk each scored 14 points for the Lady Wildcats (6-2), who jumped to a 20-9 lead over the Lady Goblins (4-4).

Blue Valley West of Overland Park (Kan.) defeated Marshield 43-34 for third place eight-team tournament. Har-Ber advanced to the fi nal by beating Marshfi eld 65-37 in the late game on Friday night. Samantha Weber finished with 20 points and five steals for Har-Ber, which outscored Marshfi eld 20-12 in the third quarter.

Wright and Weber each made the all-tournament team for the Lady Wildcats, who opened with a 55-25 victory over Neosho, Mo. on Thursday.

“Our defense has gotten better and that helps create our oft ense,” Har-Ber coach Sandy Wright said.

The Har-Ber boys beat Claremore, Okla. 56-35 on Saturday after losing their fi rst two games in the Bixby (Okla.) Invitational. Braxton Jester scored 11 points and Alex Rice 10 for the Wildcats (2-5).

“We played with a lot of intensity and forced some turnovers that led to baskets,” Har-Ber coach Adam Simmons said.

The Har-Ber boys and girls will host Greenwood on Tuesday at Wildcat Arena.

LADY WAR EAGLES TAKE THIRD

Rogers Heritage used a strong second half to rally for a 30-22 win over Moore, Okla., on Saturday to claim third place in the Tahlequah Tiger Invitational.

The Lady War Eagles (5-3) trailed by two points at halftime, but came back to get the victory and fi nish 2-1 in the tournament. Sophomore Emilie Jobst hit a big 3-pointer early in the fourth quarter for Heritage.

Ashley Ward led Heritage with nine points, while Jobst added eight.

“We weren’t great today, just good enough to win,” Heritage coach Kevin Ramey said. Heritage does not play again until Dec. 21 at Alma.
