Posted: December 10, 2012 at 12:49 p.m.

Road work will shut Interstate 540 lanes this week in the Fort Smith area, the Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department said Monday.

The lane closures, set for Tuesday through Friday, are planned in both the northbound and southbound lanes of I-540 between U.S. 271 and the Arkansas River bridge, the department said.

Crews sweeping the driving surface of the road will require the closures between 8:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. each day, conditions permitting, the department said.
