Fayetteville, Springdale, will take lead on hazmat

The Washington County Intergovernmental Cooperation Council approved putting the Fayetteville and Springdale fire departments in charge of responding to incidents needing specially trained personnel to handle hazardous materials.

Local mayors and the Washington County judge approved the disbandment of a more than 20-year old regional hazardous material response team Monday morning at an intergovernmental council meeting.

The regional team is disbanding after several member cities, starting with Rogers, announced earlier this year that they were leaving the group.
