Rep. Tim Scott, a South Carolina congressman who is considered to be a possible replacement in the Senate for Republican Jim DeMint, is the first black Republican to serve his state in the U.S. House since late in the 19th century. An article from The New York Times in Friday’s editions incorrectly reported that Scott was the first black Republican from South Carolina to serve in the House since Reconstruction.
