— Forums on energy jobs planned around state

Four “Energy Jobs for Arkansas” events showing the energy sectors potential to create jobs will be held around the state in the coming months. The Applied Sustainability Center at the Sam M. Walton College of Business at the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville will serve as host.

“Arkansas has economic resources in energy efficiency, renewable energy and alternative fuels that still have room for development, which can create needed jobs,” Michele Halsell, managing director of the Applied Sustainability Center, said in a news release.

The first event will be 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in Room 259 of the Jones Center at 922 E. Emma Ave. in Springdale. Another event will be held Jan. 8 on the Arkansas State University campus in Jonesboro. The remaining events will be in other parts of the state and will be scheduled for the first two weeks in January.

The events are free and open to the public. Schedule details will be listed on the Applied Sustainability website at asc.uark.edu .

Conway newspaper names Duke editor

Ricky Duke has been named editor of the Log Cabin Democrat in Conway, the newspaper said this week.

Duke, who served as interim editor for the past three months, will take over permanently starting immediately, new publisher Alan English said.

Duke, 41, has been at the Log Cabin Democrat for a year. He has worked at several community newspapers in Arkansas, including in Benton and Cabot.

English was named publisher of the daily newspaper in October and started on Nov. 1. He replaced Rick Fahr, who resigned Aug. 17.

Fahr, who became publisher in 2010, started a new job as publisher of the River Valley Leader, an online news organization in Russellville, last week.

Fahr, 42, said the River Valley Leader, which employs about nine people, plans to start a website next week aimed at better community involvement.
