$79 million to pay for work on I-540

Highway officials will spend $78.8 million on a fouryear project to reconstruct and resurface 7.1 miles of Interstate 540 in Sebastian and Crawford counties, according to the Arkansas Highway Commission.

I-540’s intersections with Arkansas 22 and Interstate 40 will be worked on, according to a Friday news release.

The project will include replacing nine bridges and raising or modifying four more. Kiewit Infrastructure South Co. of Little Rock was awarded the contract. The work should be completed inthe fall of 2016.

Highway officials also awarded a contract for $120,630 to resurface 1.5 miles of County Road 10 west of Stoverville. Crouse Construction Co. of Harrison will do the work, which is expected to be finished in the spring.
