New Group to Focus on Reducing Litter

— Mayor Lioneld Jordan, city staff and representatives from Keep America Beautiful announced a new anti-litter group Thursday.

Keep Fayetteville Beautiful, like similar state and national organizations, will focus on litter prevention, waste reduction, recycling and beautification.

“Our affiliation with Keep America Beautiful and Keep Arkansas Beautiful will help us achieve our goals of waste reduction and litter reduction as well as taking all measures to assure a beautiful city,” said Brian Pugh, waste reduction coordinator, during an affiliation ceremony Thursday at the City Administration Building.

Jordan approved a one-time, $4,000 certification fee to become a Keep America Beautiful affiliate. Pugh said he hoped the city could expand existing beautification programs and position itself to receive grants with the new partnership.

The city is now one of more than 1,200 Keep America Beautiful affiliates and participating organizations, according to a city news release.

Keep Fayetteville Beautiful’s six board members are Butch Clinton, Cindi Cope, Connie Crisp, Marie Mitchell, Curtis Northcutt and Scott Young.
