College Approves Jorgenson's Contract

— NorthWest Arkansas Community College’s board signed a contract with Evelyn Jorgenson on Thursday, officially making her the next president of the college.

Jorgenson will start July 1 with a $176,826 annual salary.

“I am very humbled and honored,” Jorgenson said Thursday. “I know the board went through quite a process to make sure they had the right person.”

Jorgenson is the president of Moberly Area Community College in Moberly, Mo.

Becky Paneitz will retire as president June 30.

“I am very pleased with the hiring of Dr. Jorgenson,” Paneitz said. “We have had a chance to talk about where the college is and where she wants to go. I think our views align nicely.”

Jorgenson’s contract will run through June 2016. Jorgenson will receive an annual housing allowance of $18,000, along with an annual entertainment allowance of $30,000, according to her contract. A vehicle for business and personal use will be provided by NorthWest Arkansas Community College Foundation, according to the contract.

Alex Vasquez, board chairman, said he is pleased college officials were able to agree on Jorgenson’s contract. Thursday’s board meeting is expected to be the last for Vasquez, who didn’t seek re-election in November.

“I’m excited to see what the future holds for the community college,” Vasquez said.
