— Vic Rimmer expects a competitive and evenly matched three days of basketball for the Lady Bulldog Classic, which begins today.

Rimmer is just hopeful his Lady’Dogs are one of the more competitive teams.

Fayetteville has won just one of its first five games this season and is coming off a 1-2 performance at the Fat City Classic this past weekend in Nettleton. Despite picking up one win against host Nettleton, the Lady’Dogs (1-4) struggled offensively in losses to Mountain Home (36-33) and West Memphis (36-26).

Today’s Games

Prairie Grove vs. Little Rock Central, 4 p.m.

West Fork vs. Mountain Home, 5:30 p.m.

Fayetteville vs. Springfield, (Mo.) Hillcrest, 7 p.m.

Jenks, Okla. vs. Collierville, Tenn., 8:30 p.m.

“We’ve got to be able to put the ball in the basket,” Rimmer said. “I thought we played well enough last week to win all three games, as far as how hard we played. We still can play better, but we did play well enough to win.

“But the main thing for us is we’ve got to be able to find ways to score.”

While Rimmer expects a balanced field — including local teams West Fork and Prairie Grove — one favorite might emerge from the bunch. Jenks, Okla. features 5-foot-8 point guard Jessica Washington, rated the No. 2 point guard in the country by ESPN HS Recruiting. Washington is one of only 19 players with a 5-star rating in the Class of 2013 and is the 14th overall player in the nation, according to ESPN HS.

She has signed to play at North Carolina.

“Jenks has one of the top big-time players,” Rimmer said. “So they might be the favorite, but other than that, it’s going to be a pretty even tournament.”

The tournament begins today at 4 p.m. and concludes Saturday with the championship game at 5:30 p.m.
