Tennessee Williams play opens Friday

The rarely seen 1961 play is set on Christmas eve and is directed by Broadway veteran Sean Patrick Reilly. The action centers on Isabel, whose new husband George drops her at the home of his Army buddy Ralph after a disastrous wedding night.

Shows are scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays and 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Sundays through Dec.

The Christmas Honors program invites residents to place wreaths on the graves of soldiers at Fort Smith National Cemetery on Saturday.

Families of servicemen are invited to a private ceremony at 9 a.m., followed by a public wreath-laying beginning at 10 a.m. A flyover and ceremony is set to start at 11 a.m.

Volunteers are needed to help assemble wreaths from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. Friday at the Fort Smith Convention Center. The group also will hold a book signing featuring Clint Hill and Lisa McCubbin, authors of Mrs. Kennedy and Me, at 7 p.m.

Guests are invited to purchase the book and have it autographed. Admission is $5 with proceeds going to Christmas Honors.

Nonperishable food items also will be accepted for the Veteran’s Homeless Shelter.

The Christmas Honors program will also host a candlelight vigil at the cemetery at 5:30 p.m. Monday and a Wreaths Across America Commemorative Ceremony at 11 a.m. Dec. 15 at the cemetery.
