Mounties Take Fifth In Tournament

Nick Mulcahy finished 9-0 to help Rogers to a fifth-place finish at the Jay, Okla., Dual Tournament over the weekend.

Mulcahy won the 152-pound weight class, going undefeated in the two-day event. The Mounties finished 5-4 with close losses to tournament champion Jay, Okla., and Bentonville in the 10-team tournament.

Individually, Justin Moore (145) and Edwin Santos (182) each finished 8-1 to take second in their weight class. Santos had a big win against defending state runnerup Kylen Larsen.

Jose Sandoval (106), Quenton Clay (220) and Gio Soto (285) each finished fourth with 6-3 marks.

Rogers coach Ken Simmons said his team now has plenty to work on for the upcoming NWA Duals, which begins Friday at Springdale Har-Ber.

“It wasn’t our best performance teamwise,” Simmons said. “We gave up 18 points each match due to open weight classes. New kids struggled, but we will get better.”

Tigers Take Second In Jay, Okla.

The Bentonville Tigers wrestling team opened the season by taking second in a dual tournament in Jay, Okla., over the weekend.

Bentonville went 8-1 in the two-day event with a 48-29 loss to the host team as the only blemish on its record. The Tigers also knocked off Rogers 42-33 and Fayetteville 52-24.

Seven individual earned medals in their respective weight classes, led by sophomore Aaron Grigsby, who went 9-0 with nine pinfalls at 120 pounds. Kiaran Curtis (113) and Kyson Larsen (182) each went 8-1 to take second in their weight classes. Chuck Price (145) and Ryan Grimes (152) each went 7-2 to take third, while Austin Tull-Cochrane (138) went 6-3 and Tim Patton went 5-3 to each finish fourth.
