— SOUTH CAROLINA Spurrier gets extension

COLUMBIA, S.C. - Steve Spurrier has received a two-year contract extension that will keep him at South Carolina through 2017.

The university’s board of trustees unanimously approved the extension Monday. There was no salary increase in the deal. Spurrier is scheduled to again earn $3.3 million in 2013.

A year ago, trustees gave Spurrier two additional years on the contract after the football season, then voted him a raise of $475,000 this past February to his current salary.

Spurrier has led the Gamecocks to consecutive seasons with double-digit victories, a first for the program. No. 10 South Carolina finished 6-2 in the SEC for a second consecutive year. Spurrier became the school’s all-time victories leader with his 65th victory when the Gamecocks defeated Clemson on Nov. 24.

South Carolina (10-2) faces No. 18 Michigan (8-4) in the Outback Bowl on New Year’s Day. Should the Gamecocks win, it would give Spurrier his third bowl victory at the school - also tops in the program. MISSOURI OC Yost resigns

COLUMBIA, Mo. - Missouri offensive coordinator David Yost has resigned, effective immediately.

The university said Monday that Yost cited personal reasons for his resignation.

Yost has been an assistant under Coach Gary Pinkel for 17 years, the last 12 at Missouri. He said in a statement that several factors led him to conclude it was the right time to move on.

Since coming to Missouri from Toledo with Pinkel in 2001, Yost has been the quarterbacks coach and recruiting coordinator until 2008. He was promoted to offensive coordinator in 2009 and was named assistant head coach in 2011.

Pinkel will conduct a national search for Yost’s replacement but will also consider internal candidates. No timetable has been determined for finding a replacement.
