Andrade trial continues

Police testifying Tuesday morning at the attempted capital murder trial of Sergio Hidalgo Andrade Martinez described profanity-laced threats and a barrage of gunfire from an angry man holed up in a Fayetteville apartment complex.

Andrade is charged with eight counts of attempted capital murder for shooting at police. Each charge could land him in prison for 10 to 40 years or life.

Andrade’s defense team contends he did not intend to kill police officers during the March 24 standoff and he has been overcharged by prosecutors.

Andrade shot one officer, Blake Williamson, in the ankle during an exchange of gunfire, prosecutors say.

Williamson recounted to the jury Andrade pointing a gun directly at him and firing.

The trial, in Washington County Circuit Court, will resume at 1 p.m. and could run through Wednesday.
