Heritage Takes Third Place

Monday, December 3, 2012

Wyatt Kinnamon drained a 3-pointer at the buzzer to lift Rogers Heritage to a 47-46 victory over Carthage, Mo., in the third-place game at the 66th annual Carthage Invitational boys basketball tournament Saturday.

The War Eagles got the ball down by two points with 23 seconds left and Connor Hirsh missed a jumper, but Luke Fryauf tipped out the rebound.

Kinnamon got the ball out of the scramble on the right wing and canned the 3-pointer as the buzzer sounded.

Heritage coach Tom Olsen was pleased with how his team hung tough, playing the home team and also coming back after a tough loss on Friday.

“We probably played better last night,” Olsen said. “The negative is we missed 10 free throws in the second half, but they hung in there.

“Hayden Greenway, I don’t think he had a turnover today and he did a great job defensively on Charlie Brown on Friday. He’s probably one of the better players in southwest Missouri and he limited him to 15 points on just eight shots.”

Kinnamon led Heritage (4-2) with 12 points on four 3-pointers off the bench, while Fryauf added 10.

The game was tied 22-22 at halftime, but Heritage trailed by six in the fourth quarter.

Heritage will open play in the Arvest Hoopfest at Hot Springs at 8:30 p.m. Thursday in War Eagle Arena.
