ROCKY VALLEY AND EAST QUARRY TRAILS

Location:

The turnoff for Pinnacle Mountain State Park Visitor Center is 2.8 miles west of Interstate 430 on Cantrell Road, then 4.37 miles on Pinnacle Valley Road. Trailhead is at the upper parking lot near a pond.

Length:

Rocky Valley Trail is a moderate (roots and rocks) 1.1-mile hike down the hill to the Maumelle River. Add the more strenuous half mile East Quarry Trail up the hill for the inspiring view, and it’s three miles total.

Main attractions:

One of the best and most popular short hikes in Arkansas - a pond, two awesome overlooks, a river, frisky woodland critters - this hike has it all.

Hazards:

Rocks.

Amenities:

Parking, water, restrooms and stuff to see and do at the visitor center.

Dog, bike, tyke friendly?

Keep the dogs on a leash; no bikes; and the smaller fry might poop out on the way back.

Rating (out of five):

Know a good trail for a hike?
