Arrest made in El Dorado man’s killing

— An arrest was made in the fatal shooting of a 25-year-old El Dorado man shortly after it occurred Friday, according to police.

Joe E. Perry, 47, of 2000 Houston St., is expected to make his first appearance today in Union County District Court on a first-degree murder charge.

Perry is accused of shooting Jeremy A. Thompson during an dispute Friday at Thompson’s residence on 810E. Beech St.

Police were called to the residence about a disturbance at 8:30 p.m. Officers said Thompson was inside when they arrived, and he appeared to have been shot. He was transported to Medical Center of South Arkansas in El Dorado, where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

Perry was taken into custody at the scene. He is being held in the Union County jail.

Thompson’s body willbe sent to the State Crime Laboratory for an autopsy, according to Capt. Kevin Holt of the El Dorado Police Department.

Police have not released details about a possible motive for the shooting.

Holt said investigators were speaking with witnesses as part of their investigation.

“The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information about the case is asked to contact the El Dorado Police Department,” Holt said.
