— Rogers Heritage coach Kevin Ramey saw a player turn in an outstanding offensive performance for the second consecutive day in the Great 8 Classic.

ROGERS High 53, ROGERS HERITAGE 46

Heritage 8 10 8 20 — 46

Rogers 11 8 15 19 — 53

Rogers Heritage (3-2): B. Ward 13, Lundy 11, A. Ward 10, Jobst 5, Murray 5, Giesen 2.

Rogers (3-2): Strickland 36, James 9, Hawley 8.

Unfortunately for him, both were opponents and it led directly to back-to-back losses for the Lady War Eagles.

Taylor Strickland poured in a school record 36 points to lead Rogers High to a 53-46 victory over its crosstown rival in the third-place game Saturday at King Arena.

“Give her credit: She’s a heck of a player, and she dominated the game,” said Ramey, after he saw Greenwood’s Lundon Williams score 26 of her 29 in the first half on Friday. “We knew coming in we need to keep the ball out of Strickland’s hands, and she gets 36.”

Rogers (3-2) led most of the game but never could put away Heritage until a 10-1 run late in the fourth quarter.

Strickland had five points in the run, including a 3-pointer from the corner to finish it for a 50-38 lead with two minutes left in the fourth quarter.

Lady Mounties coach Preston Early was pleased with his team’s overall defensive intensity but acknowledged Strickland is a key. The 5-10 senior, who has signed with Missouri-Kansas City, finished with 13 two-point field goals, two 3-pointers and four free throws.

“We have a chance to be special when she does things like that,” Early said. “We challenged her earlier today. You’re going to have two bodies on you. That can’t stop you.

“She was ready to play today and did a great job. But I thought we were outstanding defensively against a team that’s hard to guard. I also thought McKinzie (James) and Hannah) Hawley had some big conversions for us.”

Ramey agreed Rogers’ defense also played a big part in the game as the Lady Mounties forced 17 turnovers against their crosstown and conference rivals.

“I told our kids I thought their defensive toughness and execution was better than our offensive toughness and execution,” Ramey said. “We just weren’t tough enough at times.”

Brittany Ward led three players in double figures for Heritage (3-2) with 13, while Ellen Lundy added 11 and Ashley Ward 10.

Greenwood pulled away in the fourth quarter to win the Great 8 Classic with a 63-53 win over Ozark, Mo.

In other games, Fort Smith Southside (4-1) held off Beebe 53-49 to win the fifth-place game. Little Rock Christian (4-4) won the seventh-place game, defeating Little Rock McClellan 66-43.
