Questions About Grisham’s Opinions

Aresponse to the article “Science and Religion: Panel Discussion Provides Lively Exchange” in the religion section (Nov. 24)

It would be refreshing to have the Christian faith represented by a person that stands on the word of God. Rev. [Lowell] Grisham responded to the question: “How did the universe begin?” by saying, “I don’t have a clue.” Has he not read the Bible?

Christianity is a religon of faith and is based on the Bible. If, when you readthrough the Bible and you choose what you want to believe and discard the rest, you are not living by faith.

And what is worse, you are making up your own religon. I do not need to know, or understand in great detail, how God created the earth, it is enough that it is said, “God created.” Christians accept that by faith.

I accept by faith there is a heaven and a hell. The word of God so states. I need not sit and waste my time on earth pondering this. Early is Jesus’ public ministry in the Sermon on the Mount(Matthew 7:13-14) Jesus talks about two gates and two roads. The narrow gate that few find leads to “life” and the wide gate that many find leads to “destruction.” Rev. Grisham must not undeerstand the implication of “many” more going down the wide road than the narrow road as opposed to his view of an empty wide road. Luke 16:19-31 makes the reality of hell even more clear.

“Is Atheism more logical than religious thought?” Or to restate the question, “Is God more logical than man?” By faith, Iaccept the Lordship of Christ in my life as being far superior to my own logic, which has failed me numerous times.

The next time a discussion panel is formed on this topic, it would be nice for the organizers to pick from the many well-qualified people in our community who can articulate Christianity from a biblical and faith point of view. Sadly, Rev. Grisham appears not to be that person.
