Glen Rose wins with field goal

— Dakota Harris made a 22-yard field goal with 3:06 remaining, lifting Glen Rose to a 17-14 semifinal victory over Prescott to send the Beavers to their second 3A state championship appearance in five years.

Glen Rose (13-1), which won the 3A title in 2007, will face Harding Academy at noon, Dec. 8, at War Memorial Stadium.

“These kids are winners, and that’s the bottom line,” Glen Rose Coach Mark Kehner said. “We were down for two weeks in a row, and our kids didn’t waver one bit.”

Prescott (11-3), which won its first three playoff games by a combined margin of 170-54, took a 7-0 lead on a 9-yard touchdown pass from Trevor Rucker to L.J. Martin with2:57 remaining in the first quarter.

Glen Rose tied the game on a 1-yard touchdown run by Austin Kehner that capped a 15-play, 69-yard drive with 1:37 remaining in the first half.

Brandon Marks returned the ensuing kickoff 64 yards to the 11, setting up a 4-yard touchdown run by Rucker three plays later to give the Curley Wolves a 14-7 lead.

Glen Rose’s Hunter Bredensteiner intercepted a pass to end the Curley Wolves’ opening drive of the second half, and Glen Rose capitalized, tying the game on a 6-yard touchdown run by Carlos Burton with 1:11 remaining in the third quarter.

Prescott’s next drive ended with a fumble recovery by Collin Hunter, and the Beavers drove 89 yards in 12 plays to set up Harris’ field goal.
