A coalition of conservative groups is asking the Arkansas Supreme Court to strike a medical marijuana proposal from the November ballot.
The Coalition to Preserve Arkansas Values asked justices Friday to either remove the proposed initiated act from the ballot or to order the state to not count any votes for the measure. Election officials last week approved the proposed act, making Arkansas the first Southern state to consider legalizing medical marijuana.
The groups claim the proposal is misleading to voters and doesn’t fully inform them of its impact.
The proposal would allow patients with qualifying conditions to buy marijuana from nonprofit dispensaries. The proposal also would allow qualifying patients or a designated caregiver to grow marijuana if the patient lives more than five miles away from a dispensary.
