Beebe names new health-technology coordinator

— Gov. Mike Beebe has named a new coordinator for the state’s efforts to develop and improve its use of electronic health records after a former state human services director who had led the initiative announced his retirement.

Beebe on Wednesday named Ancil Lea as the new coordinator for the Arkansas Office of Health Information Technology.

Lea is currently the executive director of HITArkansas, a regional extension of health information efforts through the United States Department of Health and Human Services.

Beebe announced the appointment after current coordinator Ray Scott said he planned to retire at the end of the year.

Scott is the former director of the state Department of Human Services. Beebe appointed Scott to head up the health record effort in 2010.
