Redmond Pleads Guilty To Theft

— The owner of a Fayetteville roofing company was placed on probation for 10 years and must pay $37,000 in restitution to people who paid him for work he never completed.

Shawn Redmond, 57, pleaded guilty Monday to six counts of theft of property, a Class B felony punishable with a prison sentence ranging from five to 20 years. He also pleaded guilty to two counts of theft of property, a Class C felony that carries a sentence ranging from three to 10 years.

He pleaded guilty under a plea agreement Jay Saxton, chief public defender, reached with Ben Poole, deputy prosecutor.

Redmond was arrested Dec. 14, 2011, in connection with complaints from people concerning Redmond taking money for work, but not completing any of the projects.

Poole said there are nine victims in the Benton County case. Redmond already pleaded guilty to similar crimes in Washington County.

Circuit Judge Robin Green accepted the plea agreement and Redmond’s guilty plea.

Redmond was placed on state-supervised probation for 10 years and must pay $1,000 a month for 37 months for victim restitution.

Redmond pleaded guilty in Washington County to 19 felony counts of theft by deception and was sentenced to 10 years probation and ordered to pay $87,000 in victim restitution.

Redmond has made his payments in the Washington County case, according to Poole.

Redmond could face up to 140 years in prison if he fails to abide by the terms of his probation in the Benton County case, Poole said.
