— A standoff that began about 5:30 p.m. Sunday ended shortly after 10 p.m. with the death of a woman and a man transferred to an area hospital with a gunshot wound, said Police Chief Jon Simpson.

Bentonville police blocked off part of Tunbridge Drive near Southwest Seminole Street and Ouachita Drive during the incident.

The SWAT team, an ambulance and several officers were on the scene. Terry Rose, who lives at 801 S.W. Ouachita Drive, said she heard someone yelling “help me, help me,” followed by gunshots. She said she later heard police negotiating with someone inside.

Police identified the man Monday as Perry Dennis Davis Jr., 49, and the woman as Kelly Denette Davis, 44.

Simpson said Sunday that Davis had a gunshot wound to the head or face. Perry Davis was taken to Northwest Medical Center for treatment.

Kelly Davis's body was taken to the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory for an autopsy.

Property tax records show the house at 804 S.W. Ouachita Drive is owned by Perry D. Davis Jr. and Kelly D. Davis.

Police said they received a 911 call from a woman inside the house saying she needed help.

Neighbors were evacuated. Simpson said the Rogers SWAT team also was called in.

Police used a robot to get a phone into the house.

Chris and Toni Letempt were walking in the area when they saw officers with rifles. They said they heard gunshots.

“It sounded like muffled gunshots and it bothered us enough to be more concerned,” Chris Letempt said.

Toni Letempt said police made them move farther back.

Rose described the man who lives at the house as really nice and said she was shocked by Sunday’s events.
