ESPN analyst to speak at TD Club

ESPN college football analyst and former Washington Redskins offensive lineman Mark May will be the guest speaker at today’s Little Rock Touchdown Club meeting.

May, a first-round draft pick in 1981, played on two Super Bowl-winning teams with the Redskins and was an all-American and Outland Trophy winning offensive lineman at Pittsburgh.

Today’s luncheon will be held at the Peabody Hotel with lunch at 11 a.m. and the program beginning at noon. The cost is $15 for members and $25 for non-members. Membership dues are $50.

ASU beats UAPB

Arkansas State opened its home schedule with a 6-0 victory over Arkansas-Pine Bluff at the ASU Soccer Complex on Sunday in Jonesboro.

The Red Wolves (1-1-0) jumped out to 3-0 lead in the first half thanks to early goals from Jena Kelly, Ashley McMurtry and Christina Fink.

In the second half, Mitchell added a goal in the 50th minute after putting a header into the net on an assist from Becca Wheeler, while Christina Giles pushed the lead to 5-0 with a goal in the 73rd minute. Aja Aguirre capped the scoring for ASU with a goal in the 79th minute. Aguirre also picked up an assist on Giles’ goal with Kelley.

Audrey Baldwin played the first half and did not face a shot, while Amanda Lee played the final 45 minutes made two saves for ASU.
