— Bella Vista police and fire responded to a possible bomb threat at Carmike Sugar Creek 10 movie theater shortly before 10 a.m. Friday.

Two calls came into the theater’s corporate office in Georgia stating that “something” was going to happen after opening at one of the company’s theaters, Capt. Tim Cook said. Carmike owns theaters in 37 states.

After the message traveled down the corporation’s chain of command and finally reached local police, Cook said he was told it was a bomb threat.

When officers arrived at the theater in Sugar Creek Center, the building was locked and no people were inside, Fire Battalion Chief Bryan Wolfgang said

Officers did not find anything suspicious in the building and left the scene just before 11:30 a.m. They will continue to patrol the area.

The theater opens at 3 p.m. today.
